" />What is Sciatica?
The sciatic nerve which runs off your spinal cord, has been pressured in some way. Perhaps you twisted suddenly or pinched a nerve causing a pain that may start in your lower back or hip and then move down your buttock, possibly traveling to the back part of your thigh(s) and even into your feet.
The sciatic nerve has somehow become irritated which may show up in symptoms such as pins and needles, an annoying pain or perhaps a numb feeling in a certain area of the body, e.g.: one buttock.

It is common to only feel pain down one side of the body. The degree of pain associated with sciatica will vary from person to person. Where one person may have an excruciating throbbing pain down his leg, another person may feel numbness in his bum.
Mild pain may show up as cramping in some area, or there could be a slow onset of the condition. Most people experience sciatica at some point in their life but it is more common in age groups ranging from 20-60 years.
Over time, aging, and general wear of the body systems, an injury or twisting of the upper torso may cause a compression of the sciatic nerve. As the sciatic nerve is compressed, muscle spasms may occur to bring on the symptoms associated with sciatica.
There is an increased likelihood of developing sciatica if you are overweight or pregnant.
