Sciatica symptoms early during pregnancy–exercise/stretching suggestions?

I have always had lower back problems and have had to go to physical therapy for them, which helped a lot.

I am 18 weeks pregnant right now and for the last month I have been having periodic numbness in my left leg where it gives out while I walk, especially when going up stairs and getting up from sitting for a while. I work 7 hours a day at a desk job as well, so I'm sitting a lot although I am in good health and at a healthy weight. My doctor is concerned and said that he suspects it will get worse as time goes on, since I'm still not showing at this point and will have more pressure on the nerve as I get larger. He is planning on giving me a cane if it gets worse. Physical therapy is sort of an option, but we're stationed overseas and our base is very small, I'm not sure if they are able to fit a pregnant woman in for physical therapy here.

Does anyone have any suggestions on stretches or any pregnancy-safe exercises to strengthen my lower back (since I can't do any abdominal strengthening, it takes out almost all of my exercises from my previous physical therapy)? The doctor suggested stretching but only gave us one example.

Thank you for your help!
